NEW ENGLAND’S PREMIER CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL SEASON; READIES FOR GROWTH
Award-winning architect Graham Cooke course offers challenging yet fun play.
Built across 300 acres and more than 15 years in the making, the new Jay Peak Championship Golf Course completed its first official summer of play on all 18 holes this summer.
“Our first full season was a busy one where golfers truly took advantage of a beautiful, mountainous course with spectacular views,” said Bill Stenger, president of Jay Peak Resort. “Graham Cooke’s dedication to creating a breathtaking course takes second place only to his great respect of the land that is the foundation of this course. The result is a course that uses the natural features of the land to challenge scratch golfers but still allows for playability for mid-handicappers. The four or five sets of tees at each hole provide diverse play for everyone."
The variety of tees adjust the angle and length of the course from 5,000 to nearly 7,000 yards. Golfers will find breathtaking views of Jay Peak and the northern range of the Green Mountains, mature trees, lush, bent-grass fairways, stone features, creeks, and bunkers. The front nine sets out to the east of the base area of the ski resort and extends down the valley over the Jay Branch Brook. The back nine runs up into the West Bowl Area and open up views of the mountain which have never been seen before.
Cooke, who has been designing golf courses for more than 30 years, is best known for Owl’s Head (Quebec), Le Maitre de Mont-Tremblant (Quebec), and The Country Club of Vermont. He is currently overseeing the construction of 10 courses worldwide, including the Jay Peak course plus courses in Canada, Finland, Italy, and India.
Stay and Play packages from $99 are available and include a round of golf, course-side lodging, range balls, and excursions on Jay’s 60-passenger Aerial Tramway to the top of Jay Peak. Here players can look back and admire the new course set out at the base.
